Hornby Island Peace Work began as a creative accident in the winter of 2010. I was experimenting with some new mediums hoping to use them in the large mixed media paintings I had been working on. While I have always judged "crackle medium" as being way to "crafty" to include in the material content of fine art painting I nevertheless decided to see what I could do with the small bottle I had on hand. The peace symbol had been appearing in my work for a couple of years so it seemed natural to lay one down on the small wooden surface I was using for my experiment. A casual glance up had me reaching for a small epoxy resin kit I had had for at least ten years. I mixed it up and poured it on and the results were strangely beautiful. Hornby Island Peace Work was born that day.

The rest is/was a creative blur as the work evolved and went crazy at the Summer Market here that year. It has "hit a cord" as they say and what is a girl to do but walk through the doors that the universe is holding open? It has truly been a joy to make art that is affordable, beautiful and meaningful. And besides,...I really don't mind being called, "The Peace Lady",....:)..
